The celebrated Master Perfumer Dominique Ropion reveals a uniquely faceted, raw, intense vanilla extract: vanilla Bourbon infusion crafted for YSL Beauty to yield the full-bodied richness of the couture material. “I wanted to emphasize the leathery nuance naturally found in vanilla and to work the perfume around the contrast between this aspect and the gourmand character of the ingredient with its creamy, warm, sensual facets”, Dominique Ropion explains. In BABYCAT, the pod of the vanilla orchid remembers that, like the leopard, it is a creature of wild nature. To magnify its dark side and tease out its claws, the Master Perfumer has created a sensual, enveloping suede accord combining exotic spices and sizzling resins.

Top Notes: Pink Pepper, Black Pepper, Elemi

The opening is sharp, spicy and instantly addictive. Pink and black pepper give a dry, sparkling heat while elemi adds a resinous, slightly citrus lift. It hits bold and modern straight away, with a clean but edgy intensity.

Heart Notes: Incense, Saffron

As it develops, Babycat turns smoky and warm. Incense builds a deep, atmospheric smokiness that feels smooth and slightly sacred, while saffron adds a soft leathery spice that enriches the composition and gives it a sensual depth.

Base Notes: Bourbon Vanilla, Cedarwood, Suede

The dry down is dark, smooth and refined. Bourbon vanilla is rich and resinous rather than sweet, cedarwood keeps it dry and structured, and suede wraps everything in a soft leather texture. It’s a smoky vanilla done in a luxury, fashion-house style.
